June 8, 2008 by emilyso okay i am super-delinquent in posting these, but i think it’s because someone borrowed my usb cable for my camera and thus i couldn’t get these photos off of my camera. and it’s never been a convenient time. so i am waiting for my parents to be ready so we can go to this armenian picnic at their church and i think it is probably a good time to release these photos into the blogosphere.
thao played in our luxurious wxbc lounge on march 22nd, according to my camera, and then played a show with xiu xiu at smog (which was semi-disastrous)
these united states played in our lounge on april 9th, and then played a show at smog with motel motel.
look at the casual fellows of these united states (jesse = reddish shirt) and the ultra-hip kids of motel motel (the one who is being really intense at the microphone). you can click the pics to see gargantuan versions of the images (why is my camera on the setting with the largest photo size ever?).
i wish i could remember juicy details from these shows to blog about, but we are probably supposed to be semi-professional here, because we are trying to be as legit as possible about wxbc, so i might use discretion in telling you even if i remembered. next year, we are going to have a way less sketchy venue for instudios, i promise.

Alsace Lorraine (NYC) - I’ve been listening to these guys on and off since I was a freshman in high school. I just found out they put an album out last year and are about to put out another one. Even if you don’t make the show do check out their music!

Also, on Sunday “Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele” is playing at Union Pool but Emily can’t see her favorite instrument in its magnificence because she’s not 21. I mean I guess I couldn’t see most of these bands I just suggested to you either. LAME.

don’t worry, though, we will still have three shows going on this summer:

we will return to full broadcasting in the fall. we’ve got a lot of good things in the works, like our first-ever program guide, t-shirts, moving to the old gym(!), and online playlisting.
we’ll miss you during the summer, but we’ll be back and better than ever.

jacob borshard plays really sweet ukulele pop with snappy lyrics about love (one of my favorite examples = first girlfriend), which you can get on his website, creebobby.com. he loves elvis a lot, and “alas that hunk of burnin’ love” and “all black in leather” are his tributes to the ghost who visited his house on a chrome & gleaming bike when jacob was away one day.

i love them more than anything, i think.

it’s pretty catchy; both songs are pretty short so you should give them a listen yourself. i know that i really enjoy a song about zombies (i was actually trying to produce my show about non-human spooky creatures a few weeks ago), and i really enjoy russ woods, so i don’t know why i wouldn’t enjoy this single. i don’t really have any sort of criteria to evaluate it on, because i don’t think i’ve ever listened to hip hop in my life, but i am pretty positive i like it.
